Remove Moss From Roof Baking Soda

Remove moss from roof baking soda. Rinse it out well then fill it with the water baking soda mixtures you all have been recommending. This can be done by having it swept and blown once or twice a year when dry to remove leaves twigs and any dirt particles. After blowing apply baking soda at the ridgeline in late summer. An environmentally friendly product that has been effective for moss control on my roof.

You can sprinkle the baking soda directly onto the moss letting it sit on the moss for several days. If the moss is not already damp water it to ensure the baking soda powder clings. Mix the baking soda and water in a spray bottle and shake until the solution is well mixed. Yes it will get rid of the moss but it destroys the protective finish on your shingles that keep the shingles from protecing your roof.

Repeat applications may be needed to completely kill the moss. I buy the large bags and sprinkle it on my roof one or two times a year as needed to keep the moss down. For larger areas use a lawn sprayer and add 6 ounces per gallon. My personal favorite is baking soda which is essentially soda ash or sodium carbonate.

Dirt or particles on roofs can create places for moss to start growing so the primary preventative each year is to clean your roof. Wait for a warm dry day and thoroughly coat the moss with the baking soda solution taking care to avoid spraying nearby plants including any turf grass. Buy a bottle of moss off in the spray bottle with hose attachment. Put the solution in a hand held spray bottle for smaller areas of moss.

Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of water. And don t use laundry detergent that s another favorite home remedy here in the pnw. Hook it up to your hose and spray on. Baking soda is not on the list of recommended substances for moss removal.
